Dreams Empower, Incorporated was formed in January 2015 as a not for profit organization with the mission to encourage, inspire and support our community in the value of having dreams and making them reality. Dreams Empower, Inc. was initially formed to provide greater support and fundraising opportunities for our signature community initiative, Ice Cream for a Dream. Since 2012, Ice Cream for a Dream has exchanged over 10,000 ice cream sandwiches per year for dreams. As the initiative continued to grow, Dreams Empower, Inc. sought to provide an opportunity for summer work to a college student and formalize the Ice Cream for a Dream Initiative, therefore requiring an increase of funds to pay for the student, purchase ice cream and maintain maintenance of the ice cream truck.
In addition to Ice Cream for a Dream, Dreams Empower created the Young King Project in response to the disrespectful and racial charged campaign by H& M that had a young African American bot in a sweatshirt that read "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle". The Young King Project was created to show black boys in a more positive light. The project started out as a one time project featuring ten Young Kings. However, the response was so positive, we have decided to continue the project and eventually create a "Young Queens Project" as well.
Also in 2018, we collaborated with My People Clinical Services and the Department for Families and Children for the Dad's Matter Too Community Field Day. The purpose of this event was to highlight the importance of fathers in their children's lives by collaborating with community providers, businesses and fathers to promote the importance message that "Dad's Matter Too".
