Mission:

To develop a community that serves, supports, collaborates and succeeds together.
My People Community Services was founded in 2014 with a vision to engage in community-based therapeutic and preventive initiatives directly within the Hartford community. Too often, community members must engage with one of the "systems" (educational, court, or social services) to address their mental health and behavioral needs, resulting in services and support dictated by the referring entity's terms rather than their own conditions. This introduction has contributed to much of the community becoming weary and distrustful of social service providers and consequently, lends to exacerbated suffering from trauma, abuse, and misinformation. With all of this in mind, My People Community Services endeavors to build trust with the community and create and provide supports to help individuals heal, feel supported and uplifted.

Vision:

To create a community where individuals are supported in becoming their best selves—mentally, emotionally, and socially—through programs and partnerships that inspire change, foster resilience, and lead to lasting impact.

Divisions:

Supportive Housing
Supportive Housing is more than a place to live—it’s a stable, structured, and empowering environment designed to help individuals build independence while receiving the support they need to thrive. At My People Community Services (MPCS), our Supportive Housing programs combine safe, supportive housing with individualized case management, life skills development, and access to community resources that promote long-term stability and wellness.

The goal of MPCS Supportive Housing is to support, empower, and rebuild the lives of those who have experienced barriers to independent living. Through consistent guidance, accountability, and encouragement, we help residents strengthen life skills, maintain stable housing, and pursue personal growth, education, and employment. Our team provides hands-on support to ensure that residents not only meet their basic needs but also work toward self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.

Our Supportive Housing programs serve young adults ages 18–26 who are involved with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). Participants may be transitioning from residential treatment, facing challenges related to mental health or substance use, or seeking support as they work toward independent living. Each resident is provided with an individualized plan designed to promote growth, connection, and recovery.

MPCS operates five Supportive Housing programs, each designed to meet unique resident needs while maintaining the same foundational values of structure, accountability, and compassion.

Residents receive:
  • Individualized case management and goal planning
  • Weekly one-on-one check-ins with a Clinical Case Manager
  • 24-hour on-site staff support and supervision
  • Life skills coaching, financial literacy, and wellness workshops
  • Connections to mental health, vocational, and educational resources

Our housing programs promote dignity, responsibility, and independence—offering residents a chance to transition from surviving to thriving.

Life After High School (LAHS)
Life After High School (LAHS) is a signature division of My People that prepares young people to successfully navigate the transition from adolescence to adulthood. We recognize that “what’s next” looks different for everyone, so our approach combines guidance, mentorship, skill-building, and exposure to real-world opportunities to help youth define and achieve their own version of success.

The goal of Life After High School is to equip youth with the tools, confidence, and connections they need to thrive beyond the classroom. We focus on helping young people explore their interests, identify career and education pathways, strengthen life skills, and develop a sense of purpose. Through individualized support and group experiences, participants learn to set goals, overcome barriers, and build the habits that lead to long-term success.

Life After High School serves youth and young adults between the ages of 14 and 24, including those enrolled in high school, transitioning to college, entering the workforce, or reconnecting to education and employment. Many participants are referred through schools, community organizations, and workforce partners seeking to provide young people with structured support during critical transition years.

Life After High School is made up of several interconnected programs and initiatives, all grounded in the same core principles of Support, Empowerment, and Rebuilding. Each program offers opportunities for youth to:
  • Complete assessments to identify strengths, skills, and interests
  • Participate in mentoring, coaching, and experiential learning
  • Engage in workshops focused on college, career, and personal development
  • Receive guidance on goal-setting, decision-making, and emotional wellness
  • Connect to community resources and professional networks

Together, these efforts create a coordinated, youth-centered system of care that supports personal growth, academic persistence, and future readiness.

Life After High School isn’t just about graduation—it’s about preparing young people to launch into life with clarity and confidence. Whether the next step is college, a trade, the military, entrepreneurship, or something else entirely, MPCS is committed to ensuring that every young person we serve feels supported, valued, and ready for the journey ahead.

The Manhood Tree
The Manhood Tree is comprised of four community based initiatives that aim to support men and fathers.  The initiatives emphasize the importance of men's mental and physical health and provides men the opportunity to tell their story.  The Manhood Tree Initiatives stretch men outside of their comfort zone and encourage them to venture into topics and areas of their lives they don’t often visit.  Individuals that participate in our programs are encouraged to address their past fully and move confidently toward their future with new vigor, awareness and vision.  The four initiatives of the Manhood Tree are:

  • The Manhood Tree Group
  • The Fatherhood Manologues
  • Men's Health Initiative
  • The Manhood Tree Podcast
